Marmoleum

Marmoleum is ideal for areas in the house such as the Kitchen and Bathroom. It is a waterproof product, and also easily cleanable, therefore maintaining a high level of hygiene at all times.

Marmoleum is produced from renewable materials: linseed oil, rosins, wood flour, jute and ecologically responsible pigments. The harvesting or extraction of these raw materials consumes relatively little energy.

Linseed oil, which is obtained by pressing the seeds of the flax plant, is Marmoleum’s most important raw material. Throughout the years, linseed oil has been used for many purposes, ranging from cooking to providing quick relief to people suffering from a cold.

Rosin, which is tapped from pine trees using a method that does not harm their growth, provides the binding agent for Marmoleum. Together with the linseed oil, rosin gives Marmoleum its unique combination of strength and flexibility.

Wood flour is used because it has the unique characteristic of being able to bind with the pigments. This gives the Marmoleum products their beautiful colours and ensures their long-term colour-fastness.

Cork flour is the ground bark of the cork oak. It is sourced from plantations in Mediterranean countries. The bark is peeled every seven to ten years without damaging either the lifespan or the health of the tree. Cork flour is used as a raw material in Bulletin Board and Corklinoleum.

Limestone is found all over the world in enormous quantities. In its very finely ground form, it is an important raw material for linoleum.

The vibrant, beautiful colours of our linoleum are created by using ecologically responsible organic pigments. The pigments used in Marmoleum do not contain heavy metals (such as lead or cadmium) or other harmful substances, and do not pose a threat to the environment.

Jute, which is spun from the fibres of jute plants in India and Bangladesh, is the preferred backing of Marmoleum because of its natural origins. Not only is there an abundant, renewable supply of jute, but it also provides critical export opportunities for these developing economies.

Therefore, you can be confident that you are purchasing an environmentally friendly, and totally natural product in Marmoleum. It is available in 2m wide sheets, and Marmoleum Dual is also available in 333mmx 333mm or 500mm x 500mm tiles. You can also undertake ambitious designs such as borders, key squares, or checker board effects. Some examples of Marmoleum are shown below.

We offer a full installation service for Marmoleum. As with all smooth floors, it is vital that the floor that is to receive the Marmoleum is dry, flat, and smooth prior to installation commencing. To this end, we always recommend that a self levelling latex is applied to concrete floors, and, similarly, wooden floors receive a layer of plyboard prior to installation. Any imperfections in the floor will show through the surface of your new floor, and cause it to wear more quickly.
